The Year of Freedom

As I read one morning and spent time with God, He placed that one phrase on my heart, 'The Year of Freedom.' I recently started thinking and praying about my focus for 2022, as far as my business is concerned, and, more importantly, what is it that God needs His children to hear.

As a business owner, I've finally embraced that it's not about what direction I want to move in nor my preferred area of focus. I am merely a vessel to be used however God needs me. 

And what Holy Spirit spoke to me is that God needs His children to be free. But free from what? First, let's look at what it means to be in bondage. One definition defines bondage as the state of being enslaved. When a person is enslaved, essentially, they are restricted. 

Living in Bondage

We all live in bondage to something at some point in life, and that bondage restricts the capacity in which God can use us. Some things that we can find ourselves enslaved by are:

  • People-pleasing

  • Fear

  • Imposter Syndrome

  • Discontentment

  • Impatience

  • Anger

  • Childhood trauma

  • Social Media

  • TV

  • Greed

  • Materialism

  • Substances

  • Lack of Identity

  • Know-it-all mentality

  • Confusion 

  • Accolades/Recognition 

  • Being in control

  • Low self-esteem

  • Achievements 

  • ‘Keeping up with the Jones'

  • Keeping up appearances

  • Busyness

  • Doubt

  • Pleasure

This list is not all-inclusive but some common things that I have witnessed, experienced, or that the Holy Spirit has placed on my heart.

Fear

For a long time, I was held in bondage by fear. (Watch my testimony here) Fear was keeping me from maximizing my gifts. Once I allowed God to free me from fear, I became available to be used by God in ways I never imagined. One major accomplishment was writing and publishing my first book, a 30-Day Devotional entitled, Through My Eyes from His Spirit. 

Am I still fearful at times? Yes. But it does not control me; I am not enslaved to it. I am no longer restricted by fear. And because it no longer holds a tight grip on me like it once did, my capacity for God to use me as one of His chosen vessels was increased exponentially.

You are Valuable

God wants to use you exponentially too, and He wants to bless you abundantly. He wants His purposes for your life to be fully manifest before you leave this earth. And that is why 2022 is the year of freedom. 

The first step in getting free is identifying what things you are enslaved by. Take some time this week to meditate, reflect and seek God about the things in your life that have you enslaved, and then answer the journal prompt below.

Journal prompt: What has you in bondage? How are those things possibly restricting what God wants to do through and for you?
